The Model S platform is on display in London.  Tesla tweeted: “Model S’ groundbreaking platform is displayed in the center of London for @DesignMuseum ‘The Future is Here’ exhibit!”  Yes, the picture is a bit dark, but the idea is very clear.  The Tesla Model S is modern technology and art.

The news flow for the electric vehicle industry has picked up noticeably in recent months.  The industry is getting competitive on price, which should push overall EV sales numbers.  However, it is still Tesla leading the way with its game changing sustainable auto package: the Model S and Tesla station network.

Tesla tweeted recently a couple of updates on Superchargers:

  • “We’ve expanded I-95; FL Supercharging is now live!  Model S owners travel free between Miami, Orlando & Daytona Beach.”
  • “Northwest: I-5 Superchargers are live!  Model S owners now travel for free between Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver!”

Tesla stock (TSLA) in the last few weeks seems to have found a trading range of about $110 – $130 per share.  It closed today at $121.70, down $1.04 on the day.  The stock analyst price target drama has dissipated.

The macroeconomic climate has clouded a bit with slowing economic data in China and rising interest rates in the US, but these concerns are more cyclical in nature and difficult to predict accurately.  Oil depletion and climate change are overriding fundamental world concerns that will drive electric vehicle sales for the long-term.  The world is ready for the change, and it is something to celebrate.  Roll out the red carpet!

Hyperloop Elon Musk California Governor Brown And ET3 Daryl Oster

Tesla CEO Elon Musk does not like the California high-speed rail plan, and he is not alone.  Mr. Musk sees the rail plan between San Francisco and Los Angeles as expensive and outmoded.  In short, there have been a variety of expensive estimates for the project, some as high as 100 billion, and the train technology that is planned is slow by modern standards, max speed of 220 mph.

In Japan, a maglev train was tested recently at speeds of 310 mph.  Maglev is short for magnetic levitation (portmanteau).  Yes, maglev trains levitate which eliminates rail friction, enhancing the speed and comfort of the ride.  This technology holds tremendous promise.  (With maglev trains, you still experience air resistance, which has many thinking that there is one more step yet to go, airless maglev transport tubes.)

California Governor Brown may be in the hot seat in the coming days and months if he continues down the high-speed rail track, because Americans have a proud moon-shot history.  Governor Brown is a good man.  He is not a static politician.  It is certainly within his personality to recognize a project with moon-shot potential.

Mr. Musk plans to reveal an earthly design for this new transport science.  Mr. Musk tweeted July 15: “Will publish Hyperloop alpha design by Aug 12.  Critical feedback for improvements would be much appreciated.”

Evacuated Tube Transport Technologies (ET3) CEO Daryl Oster has been researching airless maglev tube transport for many years now.  In a phone interview yesterday, he said that he thought he could organize investors for a test project, but he was not set on a location.  Mr. Oster sees this transport technology as world changing, a leap forward for humankind.  Read this report on ET3 (courtesy of Daryl Oster): https://docs.google.com/file/d/0ByaWXWiohpx6LWtoYjdtajhrY3M/edit?usp=sharing.

Tesla Demonstrated the Potential of New Electric Energy Era

Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently tweeted in regards to battery pack swap that “seeing is believing.”  He was right.  He wowed the crowd in Hawthorne, California, by demonstrating that a Tesla Model S battery pack could be swapped in about 90 seconds.  So, if “seeing is believing,” what’s next?

Tesla sells a very tangible product.  Why not demonstrate battery swap and Supercharger technology in major cities?

The wow factor of battery pack swap will be extremely clear when the day arrives that battery technology can be upgraded.  With that said, the potential of the new electric energy era will be extremely clear when that day arrives.  In the future, Tesla may be able to offer battery technology upgrades by simply swapping-out the old technology for the new, enabling more range.

As a nation, we’ve been talking about oil dependency for decades, doing little to nothing to stop it.  Elon Musk has done something, something extraordinary.  Tesla Motors produces a high-precision all-electric car that can roll in and out of a battery swap station in about 90 seconds.  It does not use oil!  It produces no carbon emissions.  None!

Elon Musk plans to drive across the United States from Los Angeles to New York City at the end of this year in his all-electric Model S car.  He will make this trip using the Tesla stations, which will dispense electric fuel to power his car every inch, every mile.  The Superchargers are free.  Yes, free, forever.

The biggest economic challenge the United States faces is its dependency on oil.  It is an imperative that the United States move away from oil.  It is a fact that all producing oil fields peak and decline, and there is no American oil industry miracle that is going to change this fact.  The price of a barrel of oil is warning us that the clock is ticking.  The price of a barrel of oil is a fact.  The oil market does not believe that there is any geologic miracle on the horizon.  The United States is still using about 18.6 million barrels a day (EIA).  The age of cheap oil is over, forever!

Tesla Fast Pack Swap Speeds Electric Car Revolution

Tesla CEO Elon Musk introduced the company’s fast battery pack swap last night in front of a packed house at its Hawthorne, California, design studio.  Mr. Musk demonstrated that the Model S pack can be swapped in about 90 seconds.  Two Model S cars, one after the other, had packs swapped-out in about 3 minutes and ten seconds.  The crowd of EV enthusiasts enjoyed the show (see video bottom).

The company plans to add the pack swap service to its growing Supercharger station network.  With the introduction of pack swap to the Supercharger network, it is best to simply call the network, Tesla stations.  Tesla plans to charge for the battery swap service, but the Supercharger will always be free.  For those that do not know, the Supercharger provides 200 miles of range in 30 minutes.

Tesla has one last major barrier to topple, the price of an electric car.

As the Tesla station network is built across North America, the pressure is going to mount for Tesla to produce the generation III (mass-market electric car).  Mr. Musk says it will take a few years.

Tesla’s strategy will likely become part of a sustainable transportation solution around the world.  World leaders want to have such a solution, and Tesla has one.  Mr. Musk has to balance being CEO of Tesla in conjunction with various worldwide needs/demands for electric vehicle adoption.  With that said, climate change has become a front and center issue on the world stage.

The large auto manufacturers appear to be mired in something, slowing progress to electric cars.  This has not escaped the notice of many electric car enthusiasts, and as time moves forward, this is unlikely to escape the notice of Main Street.
