BOGOTÁ, Colombia -Today BYD Co., Ltd., Codesa, Praco, Helm Bank, and ETC held a ceremony at Tercer Milenio Charging Station announcing and displaying all-electric e6 taxis to be put into service in the capital City of Colombia – Bogota. Dr. Gustavo Petro Urrero, Mayor of Bogota, Dr. Adriana Soto Carreño, Deputy Minister of the Department of the Environment and Sustainability, Dr. Néstor García Buitrago, District Secretary of Environment and other important guests were in attendance. The 45, e6 fleet vehicles were all part of that country’s new “BIOTAXIS Project” (authorized by Decree 677 of 2011). “The purpose of this pilot is to replace conventional taxis with the electric taxis and show a visible benefit to investors due to the reduced operational cost of electric vehicles. Anybody who owns a combustion taxi in operation has the ability to replace it with an electric taxi now,” commented by Dr. Gustavo Petro Urrero, Mayor of Bogota.

Bogota’s “Decree 677 of 2011” clearly states the need for the city to develop instruments and tools to support and promote the development of electric transportation policy and has been promoted in conjunction with the Departments of the Environment and Sustainability, Commerce Ministry and the Finance Ministry. “The import https://evnewsreport.com/files/tag/duty of hybrid bus, truck and cng vehicles will be reduced down to 5% from 15%, while the import duty of pure electric bus, truck, taxi and private cars will be entirely eliminated,” explained the minister of the department of the environment and sustainability. “it’s anticipated that 2,250 pure electric vehicles will benefit from this act in just 3 years.” according to a report from the world bank in 2012, the economic loss caused by air pollution in colombia is 570 million pesos (local currency) every year, and pollution from dirty petroleum transportation may have played a role in as many as 5,000 deaths in the country. deputy minister of the department of the environment and sustainability, dr. adriana soto carreño mentioned, “We hope other cities would also introduce pure electric and hybrid electric vehicles into public transportation, to reduce particulate matter and pollution and improve public health.”

The BYD e6 is a 5-passenger, long-range, pure electric utility vehicle powered by BYD’s core technology Iron-Phosphate battery. It is a crossover between a sedan and a SUV with superior interior space and additional 450L cargo space. The nominal range of e6 from a single charge is 300 km. Using BYD’s internally-developed bi-directional charging and discharging technology, the e6 can be fully charged in 2 hours (0-100%). With over 800 e6 vehicles running as public eTaxis today, the e6 fleets have an accumulated range of over 100 million km (as of Aug, 1st, 2013). They are operated two shifts for nearly 24 hours with mid-day supplemental charging required. Through electrifying the city’s public taxi fleet, BYD e6 is achieving reduced Green House Gas emissions and reducing public health care costs.

On August 2, BYD Shaoguan Industrial Park held a grand opening event, displaying its assembly line of the world’s first iron battery-powered BYD new energy 3.5T electric forklift. The event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Shaoguan Municipal Party Secretary Zheng Zhentao, Mayor Yi Xuefeng, BYD president Wang Chuanfu, senior vice president Wang Nianqiang and various representatives from government and professional media were present at the event. Wang pointed out that the new energy forklift truck industry will be the future of forklift development. He stressed that the BYD forklift will not only be an innovation as a technology and as a product but will also pave the way for an innovative market.

The New Energy forklift truck will lead the future development of the forklift industry.

Currently, the petrochemical resources that humans depend on are depleting. As well, its extensive use towards urban development causes mass pollution in densely-populated cities. An example was when Beijing and Tianjin experienced severe smog earlier this spring. These problems indicate that environmental protection is unable to be delayed any longer. As the environmental factors become more severe, people’s awareness of protecting the environment becomes more and more prevalent. A product, especially a forklift, which advocates low-carbon and the saving of energy, is attractive to clients. BYD’s iron battery-powered forklift is the world’s first of its kind, producing zero emissions. It has a long life, a high change/discharge rate and is virtually maintenance-free. Compared to the conventional internal combustion forklifts and lead acid battery forklift, the BYD iron battery production process releases no heavy metal pollution or emissions. The charging process does not product acid fog. After the one life cycle, the battery can be recovered for energy storage, making it a true green product that effectively overcomes the manufacturing of lead-acid batteries. BYD’s iron battery is perfect for usage in pharmaceuticals, cold chain, food, and settings such as airports where eco-friendly approaches are necessary.

BYD 3.5T electric forklift broaden the scope of electric forklift industry.

It is reported that the 3.5T forklift truck accounted for approximately a full share of more than 50% in domestic market, while internal combustion forklifts had a full share of close to 80% in 3.5T category. Traditional lead-acid batteries are mainly manufactured for smaller 2.0T forklifts since lead-acid batteries cannot be used for heavy-duty, high-efficiency products. The 3.5T electric forklift market holds a “there is a demand but no product” dilemma. Having quickly achieved the global market with its own technology and industrial advantages, BYD utilizes vertical integration on the basis of integrated innovation. BYD successfully developed its “iron battery” technology applicable to the large-tonnage electric forklift field, being the first to break the large-tonnage electric forklift development bottle neck. The launch of the BYD 3.5T electric forklift greatly broadened the scope of the application of electric forklifts and will provide the logistics of the large-tonnage electric forklift industry with effective solutions.

Davos Leaders and World want Energy Solutions

January 23, 2013 in China, Environment, EV News, Pollution, San Francisco

China’s dramatic pollution problems in Beijing have a lot of world leaders and environmentalists talking about energy.  How do we transition away from fossil fuels?  At Davos, this debate will be a large topic of conversation.  The clean clear air of Davos Switzerland is a blatant contrast to the media images of the polluted skies of Beijing China, and it is a reminder to all Davos participants of what the world can and should be.

In San Francisco last night, I spoke with Jeffrey Ball of Stanford University after a speech on renewable energy issues at the World Affairs Council.  Mr. Ball had recently returned from a trip to China, and he expressed that it is far more important in terms of the direction of energy usage of what goes on in China than anywhere else.  He views the electric vehicle industry and all new energy vehicles as a “wild west” and that we will not know the outcome for a number of years.

In Shanghai today, the Xinhua news agency reported:

Shanghai resident Qian Jun didn’t have to spend a single penny on a license plate for his newly-bought battery electric vehicle (BEV).  The electric car cost him 140,000 yuan (22,498 U.S. dollars) in total, including a vehicle purchase tax and car insurance.  Normally, a domestic BEV costs buyers 200,000 to 300,000 yuan.”  At the end of last year, the Shanghai government instituted a rebate program for new energy vehicles to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles.  As part of this program, electric car buyers are issued a free license plate.  In an effort to control congestion, the Shanghai government places limits on the number of license plates it issues, and the price of plates have skyrocketed.  Xinhua continued: “The average bid for a plate in Shanghai soared to a record high of 75,332 yuan during a monthly auction that ended on Saturday, an increase of 5,986 yuan compared with last month.
